SCARBOROUGH, Maine (AP) — A former retail center on U.S. Route 1 in Scarborough is being renovated into a health care center for MaineHealth.

MaineHealth is the nonprofit parent of more than a dozen health care organizations, including the Maine Medical Center in Portland.

The 15.7 acre property was once home to retail businesses and light industry.

The Portland Press Herald says it will be renamed the MaineHealth Professional Park.

The project is renovating about 92,000-square feet of existing space. There will be some new construction.

One of the tenants will be the administrative offices of Maine Medical Partners.

Tenants are expected to start moving in by the end of the year.
