NORWAY — Pat Shearman of Norway has announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination in the June primary for Oxford County East register of deeds.

“I welcome the opportunity to serve as a full-time register,” said Shearman in her statement. “I have a deep interest in the history of Oxford County and the meaningful work done by the team at the Registry of Deeds. With the retirement of Jane Rich, I would like to continue to work with the County Commissioners to provide reliable public access to the vital records of property transfers.”

Shearman, a native of Waterville, went on to say, “I also look forward to a discussion of the plan under consideration to combine Oxford County West and East registers and what that will mean to the folks who depend upon the Registry personnel and location. A Charter Commission would give all parties a chance to look at the process of county government.”

Shearman is a former small business owner and has experience in management and financial oversight of publicly funded programs and was instrumental in bringing public access television to Norway-South Paris. She has taught adult education, video production, at Telstar and for Women Unlimited in Rumford, as well as producing informational videos for county-wide non-profits. Active in area historical societies, she is currently chair of the task force working to restore the historic Gingerbread House in Norway. She has a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University and an master’s in American and New England studies from the University of Southern Maine.

Her ancestor, Job Prince, filed the first deed, in her family, for property in Oxford County in 1788.
