JAY — A local man is accused of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident at the intersection of Route 133, Hyde and East Jay roads on Thursday night, Jay Police Chief Larry White Sr. said Friday.

Andrew Deering, 23, of East Jay was issued a summons on a misdemeanor charge of leaving the scene of the personal injury accident on Friday, he said.

Jay officer Mike Mejia responded to a hit-and-run at about 8:10 p.m. on Thursday.

A car operated by Ellen Bonney, 51, of Strong, was traveling north on Route 133 when a pickup truck pulled out in front of her from the Hyde Road crossing over to the East Jay Road, White said.

Bonney’s car collided with the truck, White said.

The truck was damaged but left the scene, he said.

Bonney complained of neck pain but opted to seek medical assistance on her own.

Bonney’s 1998 Toyota received about $3,000 in damage to the front-end, he said.

Mejia and Livermore Falls police searched the area for the blue pickup truck but didn’t locate it, White said.

Police were notified on Friday by someone at a Jay school who knew about the accident, that a blue truck with damage to the front right side of it was in the parking lot.

Officer Nicholas Gulliver and White went up to the school and the damage to the truck was consistent to the accident, he said.

Police checked with the owner at the school and was told that the woman’s son had used the truck on Thursday, White said.

Police went to talk to Deering. He initially told police the truck had been parked at Hannaford in Farmington and someone hit it, White said.

But during the interview, Deering admitted to being the driver of the truck involved in Thursday night’s accident, he said..

The truck Deering was driving sustained about $3,000 damage, he said. It is registered to Deering’s father, Rondell Deering of Jay. The parents had nothing to do with the accident, White said.

Andrew Deering is scheduled to appear on May 20 at Farmington District Court.
