WILTON — Police in Wilton are looking to the public for help in tracking down occupants of a second car who possibly witnessed a fatal crash Saturday night.

Jeffrey Burgess, 25, of Dixfield was pronounced dead at Franklin Memorial Hospital following the 8:40 p.m. accident. The Wilton Police Department reported that the one-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Routes 4 and 2. Burgess and two other men, Zachary Metivier, 25, and Adam Turner, 27, were eastbound on Route 4 in a Ford F-250 pickup when the truck ran off the road, rolled over an embankment and came to rest among several trees.

While Metivier escaped the crash without injury, Turner was transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital with what police reported to be serious injuries. A nursing supervisor at the hospital said Sunday night that Turner had been treated and released.

Police did not release which man was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash, nor the hometowns of Metivier and Turner. Wilton Police officers were assisted by officers from Jay, Dixfield and Farmington, as well as the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine State Police.

Police believe that the pickup truck the men were riding in was passing a red sedan that was also eastbound on Route 4 at the time of the crash. They are asking that anyone riding in the red sedan that the truck was passing call lead investigator Officer Nick Oettinger at 645-4222.
