GREENE — He has leaned out of helicopters flying over mountain peaks, scuba dived under icebergs and come face to face with a grizzly bear.

From the polar ice of the high artic to the volcanic craters of the equatorial Galapagos Islands and many exciting locations in between, John Wilson enjoys filming the world and sharing it with others.

And he’ll do just that on Friday, April 23, when he narrates his film “South Africa Safari” at Araxine Wilkins Sawyer Memorial.

Wilson, one of Canada’s top award-winning, wildlife documentary filmmakers, will share what he has captured on film in the deserts, jungles and other areas of Africa. Viewers will see the  “Garden of the Gods, the multicolored spectacle of an entire landscape awash with wild flowers; the rhythm, power and spirit of the Swazi dancers; the “Big Five,” 500 Cape buffalo at the waterhole; a lioness with her cubs; the gracious estates of the scenic Cape wine lands; and more.

Wilson is highly regarded as a cameraman who will do just about anything to get the right shot. His still photographs have appeared in Audubon and Ontario naturalist magazines. His films have been made for the CBC, Global and TVO television networks in Canada and the BBC in England. In the United States, his shows have appeared on the Discovery Channel and PBS networks.
