LIVERMORE FALLS — The Jay Livermore Falls Seniors met on April 19 at Murray Hall with 27 members present. Chairwoman Shirley Couture opened the meeting with a prayer, salute to the flag and a moment of silence for deceased members and for all the men and women serving in the Armed Forces.

Members Shirley Toncer and Mary Slovak are still on the sick list. The members were also asked to keep Maggie Castonguay in their prayers.  She is not a member but is known by all. 

The secretary’s report was read and accepted.

It was reported that there are only four meetings left until the summer break, with the next meeting on Monday, April 26.

Twenty-seven people have signed up to visit the Statehouse on Monday, May 3. Those attending will meet at 9 a.m. at Murray Hall to carpool. The group plans to arrive in Augusta for 10 a.m. Rep. Paul Gilbert will join the group.

A Chinese auction will be held on Monday, May 10.

For the final meeting, on Monday, May 17, a light meal will be served with finger rolls and salads. Gloria Delessandro will bring cake and ice cream for dessert.

Members were also reminded that John and Alice Demoras would like to see all their friends at the open house to be held in honor of their 50th wedding anniversay. It will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

Toncer said that since she became chairwoman in 2002, the group has lost a total of 42 members. Twenty-five have passed, seven are home-bound, six are in nursing homes and, in the last couple of months, four more have passed. Members are asked to work to invite friends and acquaintances to join the group.
