FARMINGTON — From a home garage in Industry to Marceau Court in downtown Farmington, Black Bear Graphics is expanding.

The company, specializing in screen printing and embroidery, is opening a retail store at 186 Main St., the former Sun Journal office, across the court from their present location.

Black Bear Graphics and Supply becomes one business under two roofs starting in May, said owners Nate and Amy Morin. A grand-opening is planned for May 17 and 18.

The couple will become the Western Maine dealer for 5.11 Tactical, a California-based company, featuring a full-line of clothing, uniforms, equipment and accessories for police, fire and EMS personnel.

The Morin’s territory will cover Somerset, Franklin and Oxford counties in Maine and Northern New Hampshire and Vermont, Nate said.

Local customer requests prompted the couple to step out and try something new for downtown Farmington. While 5.11 Tactical specializes in items for law enforcement, emergency, military and fire professionals, the new store will feature a wide range of outerwear and apparel including other brands used now in the couple’s screen-printing and embroidery business, he said.

“Their (5.11 Tactical) cargo pants made the company famous,” Amy said. The couple said the company offers a range of casual wear and accessories from belts, boots, gloves, knives and even luggage.

Items available will depend on what people want, he said.

The combination with their screen printing and embroidery blends well as items can be customized and logos added, he said. Screen printing and embroidery orders will also be taken at the retail store site.

“There’s nothing around like it,” he added.

The grand opening is being held in conjunction with one of 5.11 Tactical’s planned sale events, Amy said.
