LEWISON — The Central Maine Endocrinology and Diabetes Center will sponsor a Diabetes Fair from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 30. The keynote speaker for the event will be endocrinologist Maylene Peralta, M.D., who will discuss “Diabetes Medications. Which One Might Be Right For You?”

“Diabetes Champion for Team Type 2” will be the topic of a presentation by Tim Dolan, who will talk about his own experiences since being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

Ellen Dionne, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator at Central Maine Medical Center, will talk about “Diabetes and Nutrition, This, That and the Other.”

“Take Control of Your Diabetes,” will be the subject of a presentation by Dick Smith, who has lived with type 2 diabetes for 18 years.

There will be free blood pressure checks and free screening for peripheral vascular disease. Free cholesterol tests will be provided to the first 25 people who request the test; thereafter the test will be available for a $10 fee, payable by cash or check.

Also available will be information from exhibitors regarding blood sugar testing equipment, insulin pumps, medications and diabetes management. The event will include door prizes and giveaways.

The fair will be held in the 12 High Street Medical Office Building Conference Center, located on the building’s lower level.
