AUBURN — Elaine G. Brownell, 91, formerly of The Chapman House, 41 Pleasant St., passed away on Tuesday, April 27, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.

She was born in Auburn, Feb. 11, 1919, the daughter of the late Fred H. and Edna Whitney Gray. She was raised in Auburn and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1936, and then from Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed as a nurse at Central Maine Medical Center and did private duty nursing also. She loved to knit, read and do puzzles and was a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church in Auburn and the CMGH Alumni Association.

She is survived by a son, Peter Brownell and wife, Pamela, of Lewisburg, Tenn.; three granddaughters, Kimlee Dustin and husband, Randy, of Hebron, Tammie Gayton and husband, John, of Lewiston and Kristie Sargent of Sabattus; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by a brother, the Rev. Clayton Gray.
