100 years ago, 1910

On the evening of May 14, in the hall of the Dingley Training School, Ernest Harold Baynes will give an illustrated lecture on the subject of “Common Wild Animals of New England.” The lecture, which has received the approval of Theodore Roosevelt, will be open to the public and is under the charge of the Lewiston Teachers Association.

50 years ago, 1960

Some Lewiston police officers have missed spotting business establishment breaks during their after-dark patrols and the Police Commission isn’t at all happy about it.

Any recurrences probably will result in some type of disciplinary action against the officer involved.

Failure of some men to discover breaks was discussed Tuesday night at a closed-door meeting of the commissioners at the city building, according to minutes of the meeting.

25 years ago, 1985

Geneva Kirk, a member of various local and state historical organizations, will speak on the history of Twin City churches at the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club’s Ladies’ Day luncheon Thursday.

Ms. Kirk is a trustee of the University of Maine, president of the Maine Retired Teachers Association, chairman of the board of LPL Plus APL and a member of the Lewiston Historical Commission, Androscoggin Historical Society, League of Maine Historical Societies and Maine State Museum Commission.
