LEWISTON — Two men were injured Friday afternoon when their cars collided head-on on Main Street.

The 2:30 p.m. wreck in front of LA Harley Davidson brought traffic to a stop along outer Main Street as rescue crews responded and pulled the victims from their cars.

Police said cars driven Brian Beaulieu of Auburn and John McCabe of Monmouth collided when one of the cars drifted over the center line.

Witnesses said it appeared McCabe was heading into town and Beaulieu was driving toward Greene when the crash occurred.

The accident report with addtional information about the drivers and additional details of the crash was not available Friday night.

The front ends of both cars were mangled in the wreck and debris was strewn across Main Street. However, by early Friday night, police said none of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.

Beaulieu was treated at the scene. McCabe was taken to Central Maine Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition Friday night.

Police remained at the scene speaking with potential witnesses and directing traffic as the roadway was cleared of debris.

For at least an hour after the crash, traffic was clogged along Main Street and along side streets such as Stetson Road, Mollison Way and College Street as drivers tried to avoid the crash site.
