Volunteers from the Jesus Party Pentecostal Kids’ Church in Lewiston recently hosted two events for inner-city children. Patriotic mentor Jerry DerBoghosian spoke to the children about an event that took place on April 10,1963, when the U.S.S. Thresher (a nuclear submarine) went out for shake-down operations off the coast of Massachusetts and never resurfaced, killing all 129 crew members. DerBoghosian knew and worked with the crew at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Also, Christine Span promoted the Blue Ribbon Campaign for Child Abuse Awareness by making blue ribbon pins for all to wear. Pictured holding blue ribbons are DerBoghosian and Span.
