STRONG — Andrew G. Pratt I “Andy,” 87, died May 3, at his home in Strong.

He was born Dec. 22, 1922, in Strong, the son of Almon and Jennie Jones Pratt. He was educated in the schools of Strong, graduating in 1942 from the Strong High School. He married Dawn Stevens in 1951 in Strong.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, being stationed in both the Pacific and Atlantic fronts. He was employed at the Brackley Mill, Forster Manufacturing Co., Starbird Lumber, R.S. Osgood, E.L. Vining for 10 years and later for the town of Strong for four years. He also was self-employed as a farmer.

He was a member of Blue Mountain Lodge 67 AF and AM, where he was a 50-year member. He also belonged to the Strong Historical Society. He was a charter member of the Agricultural Museum at the Franklin County Fair. Andy was very civic minded, serving as selectman for the town of Strong for four years, the school board for 12 years, the budget committee for 18 years and superintendent for the Strong Water Department.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn Pratt of Strong; one son, Rupert Pratt and wife, Susan, of Strong; one daughter, Cynthia Mason and husband, Bill, of Kittery; two sisters, Floriece Kennedy of Farmington and Colleen Reed of Westbrook; four grandchildren, Deana Wiggin and husband, Jim, of New Hampshire, Erica Brown and husband, David, of Freeport, Andrew Pratt II and wife, Kendra, of Strong and Sarah Churchill and husband, Mike, of Kingfield; three great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
