FARMINGTON —  Western Maine Community Action Health Services, in partnership with Healthy Community Coalition, will hold a screening day from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 13, in recognition of National Women’s Health Week.

Women in the community, age 40 and older, who haven’t had a pap test and/or clinical breast exam in more than a year (or perhaps many years) will be able to get a pap test, a breast exam and bone density, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings at no cost to them.

In addition, participating women may receive complimentary mini-massages,facials and/or 30-minute acupuncture treatments by Sandy Thomason. There will be lots of information on a variety of health topics, giveaways, healthy snacks and the opportunity to get a free bra.

“National Women’s Health Week is important because it encourages women to take time for their health,” said Sara Hayes, FNP, one of the WMCA Health Services nurse practitioners who will be doing the clinical exams at the event.

“Women are often the caregivers for their families and, as a result, are too busy taking care of everyone else to think about taking care of themselves. With National Women’s Health Week, we remind women that they too need to visit their health care provider, make sure their screenings are up to date and just take a minute to take care of themselves. It is their time,” she said.

National Women’s Health Week will be celebrated from May 9 until May 15. To learn more about the local screening day or to schedule an appointment, call 778-4553. Same-day appointments are welcome.
