Grange dinner

RUMFORD — The Rumford Grange 115 will hold a baked shank ham lunch with fixings and homemade pies, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 16. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Take outs are available.

County dems

SOUTH PARIS — Members of the Oxford County Democrats attended a public hearing held by the Maine Citizens Trade Policy Commission on the subject of trade policies on May 6 at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Attending were Commission member John Patrick, Rumford; Sen. Bruce Bryant, Dixfield; Rep. Terry Hayes, Buckfield; County Treasurer Roy Gedat, Norway; County Democratic Chair Cathy Newell, Greenwood; and candidates Colin O’Neill, Oxford and Pat Shearman, Norway.

Ron Hemingway of USW Local 900 and Deano Gilbert and Don Berry of IBEW testified, as did Tom Whitney of South Paris. Gubernatorial candidates Patrick McGowan and Libby Mitchell were in attendance. Testimony focused on requesting the commission to support HR 3012, a trade act sponsored by Rep. Mike Michaud. Hemingway referenced the efforts to deal with the “paper-dumping” by China and Indonesia.
