Legion dance

SOUTH PARIS — The Jones Dance Band will play old-fashioned dance music at the South Paris Legion Hall on Church Street from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 15. The cost is $5. The lunch counter will be open.

Trustees meeting

PARIS — The Paris Utility District monthly trustees meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at the Paris Utility District Office, 1 Paris Hill Road.

Society potluck

WEST PARIS — The West Paris Historical Society will have a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. Monday, May 17. The regular business meeting will follow at 7 p.m. and entertainment will be a surprise. The baked bean supper will be at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 4.

Yard sale

SOUTH PARIS — Oxford Hills Christian Academy will hold a yard and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at 77 Oxford St. It will be held rain or shine and proceeds will benefit the senior class.

Grange meeting

WEST PARIS — West Paris Grange 298 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 20, at the hall at 4 Church St.

County Dems

SOUTH PARIS — Members of the Oxford County Democrats attended a public hearing held by the Maine Citizens Trade Policy Commission on the subject of trade policies on May 6 at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Attending were Commission member John Patrick, Rumford; Sen. Bruce Bryant, Dixfield; Rep. Terry Hayes, Buckfield; County Treasurer Roy Gedat, Norway; County Democratic Chair Cathy Newell, Greenwood; and candidates Colin O’Neill, Oxford and Pat Shearman, Norway.

Ron Hemingway of USW Local 900 and Deano Gilbert and Don Berry of IBEW testified, as did Tom Whitney of South Paris. Gubernatorial candidates Patrick McGowan and Libby Mitchell were in attendance. Testimony focused on requesting the commission to support HR 3012, a trade act sponsored by Rep. Mike Michaud. Hemingway referenced the efforts to deal with the “paper-dumping” by China and Indonesia.
