LEWISTON — Members of the community are being called to help young children gain more early literacy experience to better prepare them for learning in school. This year, Ready…Read!, a collaborative effort of the Lewiston and Auburn public schools, libraries and area child care providers, will hold a book drive to collect books for infants and toddlers, which will be distributed to families in need.

New and gently used books may be donated at the Lewiston and Auburn Shaw’s and Hannaford supermarkets between May 14 and 21. The Ready… Read! goal is to collect at least 1,000 books to provide to 100 families in need.

In addition to spurring the book drive, Ready…Read! will honor a number of individuals, business and community-based organizations who have been actively involved in promoting early literacy efforts in the community at an event on Friday, May 14.

For additional information on Ready…Read!, call Lewiston Adult Education at 795-4141.
