SOUTH PARIS — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Oxford County will sponsor a tractor safety course beginning in May. Classes will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, May 25 and June 15, at the Extension Office, and from 4 to 6 p.m. Fridays, May 28 and June 4, at the Roundabout Farm in Buckfield. A final exam date will be chosen by the group.

The course is open to anyone older than 12 wishing to gain the knowledge and skills needed to operate tractors or equipment safely. By law, training is required for 14- and 15-year-olds who plan to operate farm equipment for hire on farms other than their own. A federal certificate of training will be issued at the end of the course to all 14- and 15-year-olds who successfully complete the written and driving tests.

Preregistration is required. For further information or to register, call the Extension Office at 743-6329 or 1-800-287-1482. There is $12 charge for the course, payable at the first class.
