STANDISH, Maine (AP) — A Maine man is in critical condition after the car he was driving hit a 500-pound moose.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department says 31-year-old Justin Webster hit the moose on Oak Hill Road in Standish on Sunday.

Webster had to be extricated from the car and was taken to the Maine Medical Center in Portland where he was reported in critical condition.

A passenger in the car was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries.

The moose was killed.
