Board: Turner Selectmen

Met: Monday night

Rough mil rate

Issue: Selectmen got a look at a tentative mil rate for the coming year.

The scoop: It may fall at $14.25 or $14.50. The current mil rate is $13.40.

Up next: A firm number won’t be in until August, when assessing information is in.

Bid awards

Issue: Selectmen opened and awarded several bids for work on town roads. For culvert work, out of five proposals: EJ Prescott, $15,271.60. For Fish Street paving, out of four proposals: Rampart Bituminous, $10,913. For cold mix manufacturing, out of one: Rampart Bituminous, $49.20 per cubic yard.

Mark your calendars

Issue: Ground broke Monday on the new gazebo near 98 Matthews Way. It’s expected to be complete before July 1, making it available for the library’s Festival on the Green on July 4. Look for more programming on the gazebo, potentially concerts, in the future.

Issue: The town office will be open for voting on the upcoming referendum June 8 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Before then, during regular business hours, and on June 7 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., absentee ballots are available. According to the deputy town clerk, absentee voting can be done in person during regular hours through June 7.
