MINOT — Selectman Eda Tripp told the board Monday night that she has received several inquiries from residents seeking to purchase lots in the newly expanded Center Minot Hill Cemetery.

“We won’t be ready to sell lots until late summer,” Tripp said.

Tripp noted that while work on the 3-acre expansion appears to be substantially complete, some final grading remains to be done.

“And we need to get the place pinned,” she added.

Town Administrator Arlan Saunders said he will notify the surveyor that the lot pins will need to be set but that it would be July before the highway crew would have the time to finish what grading remains.

Saunders reported that the stumps that had been removed from the new cemetery expansion and piled at its far end, have been ground up by Jason Tyler of Palmyra.

“Took him just a day,” Saunder said.

Highway Department Foreman Scott Parker noted that his crew had put the stump grindings to good uses — hauling 12 loads of stump grindings to the Auburn end of Brighton Hill Road where they had been used to stabilize the back slope of the ditch.

“It worked great and saved having to use erosion stone,” Parker reported.

Saunders also noted that he had received no responses to the town’s request for proposals to supply propane in time for the May 14 bid deadline.

“However two did respond today,” Saunders said.

Selectman Steve French noted that while both bids provided what appeared to be good deals for the town, the board should stand by the deadline as set and rebid for the propane.

The board agreed and also asked Saunders to check out whether it might be to the town’s advantage to own rather then rent the tanks.

Saunders reported that he had met with the Recreation Committee last week and that he was putting together a bid package for stumping the 1.8 acres left to do at the Minot Memorial Park and the last two sections of the hiking trails.

Selectmen also offered public thanks to James ‘Mac’ McKinley for his donation of two copies of Mesannie Wilkins “Last of the saddle tramps” — one copy to the board and town office and the other to the Minot Historical Society.
