LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine will host a free informational class on rehabilitating a dog’s unwanted behavior, as part of their “Unleash” program, from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 24.

Class facilitator, Sergei Bachkovsky, known as Maine’s “dog whisperer,” is the owner and director of the Dog Rehabilitation Center of Maine. Bachkovsky will offer basic information all dog owners should know, discuss theory of dog packs and pack leaders and consult with class participants on transforming their dog’s unwanted habits. The class goal is to help owners understand their dog’s behavior and demonstrate proper guidance.

Bachkovsky was born in eastern Russia. His knowledge and understanding of dogs has come from spending a lifetime with dogs and observing their natural behavior. Bachkovsky and his “peaceful pack” help other dogs, especially dogs with aggression and serious behavior issues. He usually has between 10 to 20 dogs at the center, from chihuahuas to pit bulls, and will work with any breed.

He believes that dogs are social animals and need the right guidance from a pack leader. His goal is to help others understand canine behavior and provide proper guidance for a happy ending.
