SOUTH PARIS — The Foster-Carroll Unit, American Legion Post 72 has announced Memorial Day activities.

The Legion and the Auxiliary will attend the Memorial Day church service at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, May 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Route 117, Buckfield Road.

The Memorial Day parade will set up at 10 a.m. Monday, May 31, on Western Avenue in front of the court house. Step off time will be at 10:30 a.m. The parade will march to the Riverside Cemetery off Maple Street for services. The Fanfare Band will participate. Color Guard will be Gil Turner and George Brown. Other marching units are invited to attend.

The Grand Marshall will be Ed Roach, past state legion commander. Roach will also be the Memorial Day speaker.

A wreath will be placed at the monument by Dennis Gray.

Turner will also be Master of Ceremonies. The invocation and benediction will be given by Pastor Tom Myhre of Trinity Lutheran Church. The General Orders will be read by Turner and The Gettysburg Address will be read by Art Hill.

The reading of “In Flanders Field” will be read by Boys State representative Jordan Strong from Hebron. America’s answer to the reading will be by Girls State representative Leah Libby from South Paris.

The Auxiliary President, Sylvia Michaud-Kessell, will do the memorial to veterans of all wars. “Taps” will be played. Following the service, the parade will reform and march back to the Legion Hall on Church Street. Refreshments will be served by the Auxiliary.

In the event of rain, the parade will be canceled. Ceremonies will be held in the Post Hall on Church Street.
