POLAND — The third annual Poland Spring Heritage Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 29, on the grounds of the Poland Spring Resort.

Free entertainment will include The Bushwhackers Band from Boston, The Cantus Choir, Poland High School and the new offspring of Grassholes, as well as a Poland Players group performing some Shakespeare.

There will be a cow patty bingo, a rock climbing wall, obstacle course, sack races, eight carnival games, a local-celebrity dunk tank and a doughnut-eating contest.

Tours of the historic properties will be offered in horse-drawn wagons, and exhibitions in blacksmithing, twitching and harrowing will be offered. There will be a free “Magic of Water” show, as well as tours of the Maine State Building, All Souls Chapel and the Bottling Museum and Springhouse.

There will be numerous golf games in which to compete, as well exhibits by the Sabbathday Shakers, Harvest Hill Farms and the Maine Wildlife Park, all partners of “The Gems of Route 26.” Numerous local artists, craftsmen and community groups will be on hand and there will be food and drinks, including fried dough, cotton candy, burgers, sausages and fries.

Anyone wishing to set up a display may call Linda at 998-4589. All proceeds will go to local charities and the Poland Spring Preservation Society.

There is no admission fee and ample parking will be available. The rain date will be Sunday, May 30.
