LISBON — The Maine Forest Service and the Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District will sponsor GPS workshops on Friday, July 30, at Beaver Park on Cotton Road.

GPS basics will be taught from 9 a.m. to noon. The advanced GPS session, from 1 to 4 p.m., will show participants how to take basic skills a step further by using the GPS and basic mapping programs to build a map of a woodlot or property.

Interested participants can sign up for either session or both sessions. GPS units will be provided for the day and participants are asked to leave their units at home. Each session will consist of some classroom time and some field time with GPS units.

The cost is $15 for one session or $20 for both sessions. Registration is required and payment must be received by Friday, July 16. Make checks payable to Androscoggin Valley SWCD and mail to: 254 Goddard Road, Lewiston, 04240, or contact Jane Heikkinen at 753-9400, ext. 400 or via e-mail at jane.heikkinen@me.nacdnet.net.

Registration may be done online, making a credit card payment through PayPal, at www.androscogginswcd.net and by going to the workshop page. Coffee and snacks will be provided; participants will be required to provide their own lunch.
