AUBURN — Yolande P. Tardif, 77, of 61 Aquamarine Court, Auburn, passed away Tuesday, May 25, after a long illness.

She was born Jan. 31, 1933, in Lewiston. Educated in Lewiston schools and a graduate of Lewiston High School, she served as a bookkeeper for Gerry’s Body Shop and Towing Service which she helped build with her husband, Gerald. It was located for many years in the Lewiston Industrial Park.

Always interested in learning about cultures and exploring the world, she traveled extensively with her husband and family. An avid reader and consumer of newspapers, her favorite book was “Here if You Need Me” by Kate Braestrup. Favorite newspapers included The Lewiston Sun Journal, Maine Sunday Telegram, Boston Sunday Globe and any newspaper brought to her by her son, Mark. A lifelong Democrat, she believed in equal opportunity, hard work and economic justice. Her volunteer activities included serving as a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston for two decades.

Husband, children and grandchildren were always at the center of her life. Both she and Gerald sacrificed for the health, education and prosperity of their children and grandchildren and asked nothing more for their generosity and 24-hour a day support than to share in their lives which they did with zest, good humor, empathy and joy. Her support for her husband, children and grandchildren drew her to a wide array of sporting events including rowing regattas, skeet tournaments, track meets, baseball and football games.

Even when the sunshine of her life was at dusk, she delighted in the company of those around her, especially her family.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gerald; son, Mark; daughter, Jane Pierce; grandchildren, Geoffrey, Morgan and Keith Pierce; siblings, Joseph Landry Jr. and his wife, Irene and Diane Janus and her husband, Stan.

She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph Landry Sr. and Rosa Anna Landry (Theriault); and her sisters, Carmen Dufour and Connie Croteau.

The Tardif family wishes to thank the staff at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for their caring, concern and professionalism.
