LEWISTON — La Rencontre will meet at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 4, at the Franco-American Heritage Center, 46 Cedar St. At the event, a meal will be followed by a concert by Normand Gagnon. The meal will include chicken pot pie, biscuit, dessert and beverage. The cost of the meal is $6 each person. Patrons are encouraged to speak only French during the two-hour meal and entertainment in the newly-renovated Heritage Hall.

The master accordionist, Normand Gagnon, a Quebec native, resides in Rumford. Gagnon began playing the button accordion at a very young age, enjoying traditional French Canadian jigs, reels, polkas and waltzes. His son, Francis, began accompaniment with the traditional wooden spoons at 8 years old. Together with other friends, they have performed at festivals, community events, church halls and other events all over New England and Quebec, Canada.

Guitarist, Marcel Larrivee, and washtub bass player, Bill Beauchesne, contributed to the festive enjoyment of playing traditional Franco music in the early 1980s and formed the group “La Groupe de Joie.”

Everyone is invited to attend and reservations can be made by calling Claudette Violette at 786-6936 or the center at 783-1585.
