NAPLES — A Farmington man remained in critical condition Sunday night at the Maine Medical Center after crashing his motorcycle Saturday.

Merle P. Sweetser, 55. suffered a life-threatening head injury, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened at 3 p.m. Saturday as Sweetser was driving his 2005 Harley Davidson on the Tricky Pond Road. He apparently lost control of the motorcycle while negotiating a curve, skidded and struck a large rock, the sheriff’s office said.

He was taken to the Maine Medical Center by Naples Fire and Rescue.

Sweetser was not wearing a helmet. Speed was a factor in the crash, the sheriff’s office said.
