There is a small but significant detail in Russ Dillingham’s photo of Lewiston Police Officer Robert Ullrich being loaded onto an ambulance stretcher during the “fracas” at Bates College on May 26. Who is that emergency medical technician on the left-hand side of the frame, attending to the wounded officer? It appears to be a responder with Bates EMS — a volunteer, student-run and state-licensed emergency service.
I hope that residents of greater Lewiston-Auburn recognize that, although a subset of students displayed inexcusable behavior during that party and its aftermath, their numbers pale in comparison to the legions of Bates College students and alumni who have worked with and for the Twin Cities community.
