LISBON — The Pine Tree Coastal Winds of Freeport will open the town of Lisbon’s second annual Concerts in the Parks series on July 18 with a variety of American pops music, including patriotic music and marches.

Also giving concerts will be Sweet Wednesday, Rick Graham with special guest Malinda Liberty, Brian Patricks, the Coyote Drifters, the Max Sullivan Group and Back To Basics.

The free concerts are from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sundays at the Marion T Morse Park, 18 School St.. This year’s series will include food and retail vendors at each concert. Listeners are urged to bring a lawn chair.

At each concert Lisbon Area Christian Outreach will collect nonperishable foods for those in need in the community.

Here is the concert lineup:

July 18: Pine Tree Coastal Winds. Celebrating its 10th season, this group, Freeport’s community band, comprises more than 30 woodwind, brass and percussion instrumentalists. Membership includes professional musicians, high-school students, businesspeople and retirees from the Mid Coast area. The conductor, Brendan Krueger — also the band director and principal of Pine Tree Academy in Freeport — founded the Coastal Winds in 2000. The band performs year-round and has a repertoire that covers classical, pops, sacred and Christmas music.

Anyone who plays wind instruments or percussion is welcome to join the band. Weekly practice sessions are at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at Pine Tree Academy on Pownal Road in Freeport.

July 25: Sweet Wednesday. Making up this folk duet are award-winning singer-songwriters Dave Falk and Lisa Housman. They deliver their songs with guitar, mandolin, harmonica, violin, banjo, and subtle harmonies. The two offer funny stories of their travels and adventures, humorous songs like “Lisa, I’m Sorry I Brought You to New York City,” and songs of mystery, hope and love.

Aug. 1:  Rick Graham with Malinda Liberty. Graham has played guitar throughout Maine and New Hampshire, and in October of 2011 will celebrate a 30-year performance career. He enjoys playing cover songs ranging from Neil Diamond and Johnny Cash to Lynyrd Skynyrd, and ZZ Top. He has shared the stage with Arlo West, Mark Miller, Denny Breau and Ira Allen.

Liberty is known for her recording of “The Maine Christmas Song” and she has opened for numerous country stars.

Aug. 8: Brian Patricks. This singer-songwriter plays classic finger-style rhythmic guitar in renditions of his original folk and blues songs, along with music by traditional and contemporary folk, blues, country and rock artists. He may play an instrumental guitar solo one minute, deliver a fine classical or flamenco piece the next, or break out into a smoky blues finger pickin’ melody.

Aug. 15: Coyote Drifters. Hailing from the Kennebec Valley area, the Coyote Drifters love to keep people dancing with its country western rock. The Pine Tree Country Music Association award-winning group has been featured on the Fox Morning News and WMCM 103.3 Real Country, as well as at fairs, campgrounds, clubs and festivals all over Maine. Frontman and award-winning vocalist Mark Parlin leads Scott Brochu on drums, Tom Curry on bass and David Oakes on lead guitar. With a blend of modern country, Southern rock and the classics, the Coyote Drifters brings a tight, high-energy sound to it audiences.

Aug. 22: The Max Sullivan Group. Led by guitarist Max Sullivan with Chris Brown on drums and Lee Boissonneault on bass, this trio delivers blues and blues/rock, from classics to modern blues

Aug. 29: Back to Basics. This award-winning bluegrass band based in midcoast Maine specializes in traditional and original bluegrass music with an emphasis on vocal harmonies. The band is made up of Gene Groves on lead and guitar, Ray Berard on rhythm guitar, Eben Greenleaf on banjo, Bernie Coombs on bass fiddle and Brian Daniels on mandolin. Back To Basics has been performing for audiences throughout the Northeast and Canada for 15-plus years.

Reminiscent of the early days of bluegrass music, the Back To Basics stage show incorporates the use of a single microphone. Lead vocal duties are shared by Groves and Daniels with Berard and Coombs contributing harmony vocals. The band’s original material ranges from love ballads to funny novelty numbers.

Back To Basics has produced two recording projects, “Some Things Never Change” and “Havin’ More Fun Than Normal Folk.”
