MECHANIC FALLS — Community Day will be held Saturday, June 26, with a variety of enterprises, fundraisers and events heralding Mechanic Falls. It will kick off with the 29th running of the Pottle Hill Road Race at 8:30 a.m.

Other activities will include the Horribles and Non-Mechanized Vehicles Parade, beginning at at 11:30 a.m. on Pleasant Street and ending at the American Legion Post 150 on Elm Street. This year’s parade will be escorted by a Humvee driven by members of Maine’s National Guard.

The Mechanic Falls Historical Society will also have an open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring Mechanic Falls memorabilia. Stephen Kilbreth will give talk at 11 a.m. about Buckskin Sam, a native son of Maine, who is buried in the Military Circle in the center of Maple Grove Cemetery.

Local kayak enthusiast Tom Harrison will coordinate kayak and canoeists who wish go down river on the Little Androscoggin River from Sawyer’s Bridge off Lane Road to the Route 11 bridge by Fireman’s Field. Harrison said it will be about a two hour trip back and forth. Two runs are scheduled – one at 10 a.m. and the second at 1 p.m. All participants have a chance to win a pass at a northern Maine white water rafting establishment.

Former Mechanic Falls resident and Maine author Robert Chapman will be on hand at the library book sale. Chapman is working on this third book, “Mother, Night and Water.”

The American Legion Post 150 chicken barbecue will run from 11 a.m. to 2 pm.

Throughout the day, activities will also feature the Mechanic Falls Fire Department smoke simulator and bouncy house, numerous church fairs, business tent sales, children’s games, chances to win the lobster raffle sponsored by Mechanic Falls Rescue Association, a basketball tournament, hot dogs, fried dough, music, informational booths on organic and Maine grown foods, plus a dunk tank for local dignitaries.
