TURNER – The Leavitt Are High School cross Country team hosted the inaugural Leavitt Cross Country Father’s Day 5K Sunday. It was a great start for an annual event, particularly for a Father’s Day run north of Portland. The top male finisher was Mike Mosca with a time of 17:58. Beryle Martin led the women’s division with a time of 22:54. Age category winners were Rylee Knox and Olivia Mallar, Keith Lemelin and Natasha Smith, Mosca, Billy Nicols and Martin, and Ronald Chase.

There was an excellent showing of runners from the Maine Track Club and the Leavitt team and the local community. The youngest to run was 12, and the oldest runner was 69. Coach Ralph Fletcher, a race organizer in his own right, showed up and ran as well.

Sponsors of the prizes for age category winners were Spare Time Bowling, Marco’s Restaurant, Valley View Orchards of Hebron, Play It Again Sports and Cutting Edge. Linnell, Choate & Webber created and donated all the shirts. Coaches Dustin Williamson and Kristin Ross provided the backbone on how to run the race and donated their time for all the meetings, plus the direction on race day that it took to make the race go so smoothly.
