LEWISTON — The 12-piece steel drum orchestra Tinpanic will kick off L/A Arts’ Music in the Parks 2010 at noon on Thursday, July 8, in Fountain Park.
Tinpanic will perform high-energy calypso rhythms and a big band sound. Its repertoire includes swing and pop favorites, along with the island party music for which the steel pan is recognized.
Other scheduled artists are musical duo Down the Road Apiece, Lindsey Montana and Kathy Card, performing Americana, bluegrass and old-time folk music; The Squid Jiggers, sea chanteys, drinking songs and other loudly sung music; the DownEast Brass quintet, a range of styles from classical to Dixieland; Don Campbell, a national winner of the True Value/Colgate Country Showdown at the Grand Ole Opry; Sylvain’s Cajun Aces, whiskey-flavored Cajun mayhem from Old Acadie; and master guitarist and songsmith Denny Breau.
All outdoor concerts are at noon on Thursday and are free. They are held at Fountain Park on Mill Street, next to Davinci’s Eatery in Lewiston; the Hilton Garden Inn Auburn Riverwatch; or Festival Plaza off downtown Main Street in Auburn.
Rain location is the Franco-American Heritage Center at 46 Cedar St., Lewiston, with one exception — the concert outside the Hilton would be moved into the Riverwatch Grand Ballroom.
