LEWISTON — Kenneth J. Martin, 76, of Lisbon, passed away on Monday, June 21, at Central Maine Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Born in Fort Fairfield on Dec. 3, 1933, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Adel (Levesque) Martin. He graduated from Searsport High School in 1952. He later attended Maine Maritime Academy and graduated in 1955 with a bachelor’s degree in nautical science. His love for the sea brought him to serve in the U.S. Navy until 1957, as a Lt. j.g. He continued with the Merchant Marines until 1959. He then joined the Peace Corps in 1963, and spent time in Panama training his students for a career in education.

Kenneth returned to the U.S. in 1967, and started teaching elementary school, and later at Lewiston Junior High School for more than 30 years. Throughout his career he spent countless hours after school ensuring students understood and succeeded in his class.

He is survived by two sisters, Gail Martin and Glena Martin; a son, Jeff Mason; two grandsons, Seth and Zach Mason; a niece, Mary MacDonald; a nephew, Bud Martin; and several other nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Vaughn and Maurice Martin.
