DEAR SUN SPOTS: Who do you call when your doorbell doesn’t ring anymore? Is there anyone in Lewiston-Auburn you can get in touch with? Please call 782-1602. Thank you. — No Name, Lewiston

ANSWER: If you want to undertake the job yourself, there are instructions online at http://tinyurl.com/29ppxfx and http://tinyurl.com/29gj9j2, among other sites. According to doityourself.com, often the problem is just the doorbell button, which is exposed to the elements and can get clogged with dirt or rust. Once the contacts are cleaned, the bell may chime.

If you don’t want to undertake the job yourself, you can hire an electrician. There are many listed in the yellow pages if you don’t get a personal response from your letter. A handyman might also be able to do the job, but be sure they are experienced and qualified. Doorbells are pretty simple, but they do involve wiring.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: There are two corrections to the French song that was in Monday’s paper. In the third line, replace malais with mes reve. Malais means that you feel ill about something; mes reve means my dreams. In the fifth line, replace m’ais with mes reve as well. — No Name, No Town
