AUBURN – Auburn Suburban Little League’s 11 and 12-year-old all-star team got off to a strong start with a 4-2 victory over Augusta.

Llewellyn Jensen was masterful on the mound for Auburn. Jensen went the distance, striking out seven and allowing only one hit. Whenever Augusta threatened to score, Jensen made key pitches and quieted any comeback attempt.

Jensen received plenty of defensive support in the field, led by Brandon Varney’s stellar play at third base.

Auburn jumped out to a two-run lead in the first when C.J. Jipson singled, Drew Lashua walked and Jack Coyne drove both home with a base hit. Auburn scored two more runs in the fourth on Noah Yarnevich’s single. Yarnevich fouled off several tough pitches prior to the two-run knock.

Augusta’s Riley Boivin was tough on the mound, allowing five hits over 5 1/3 innings. Mixing in some off-speed pitches with a blazing fastball, Bolvin kept Auburn off balance for much of the game.

ASLL now plays Elliot Ave. on Wednesday night at South Lewiston in a winners’ bracket game.
