LEWISTON — “Zebras” will make their first appearance at this year’s Great Falls Balloon Festival.

Due to many requests by the balloon pilots and their crews for increased security on the fields and around the balloons, a new division has been developed to provide that service. These people will be called zebras, patented after what is done at the Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Festival in New Mexico.

Anyone looking for an opportunity to become involved as a volunteer at the Balloon Festival is welcome, including those who have expressed an interest in being crew people but are unable to lift the heavy baskets and envelopes or are unable to hold down the crown line.

A crew class is scheduled to be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at the Bates College cafeteria in Room 221. The class will be a refresher for balloon crews, an introduction for anyone over 16 years of age who would like to get involved with crewing at the Great Falls Balloon Festival and the introduction into the new branch of zebras.
