LISBON — One driver Joseph Uwaechia, 50, of Auburn had to be extricated from his van by Lisbon Fire Department personnel following a four-vehicle crash on Route 196 on Friday.

The accident occurred when a car driven by Paul Lessard, 73, of Lewiston drifted into the oncoming lane, according to the investigating Lisbon officer Sgt. Scott Stewart

Both complained of pain and were transported to Central Maine Medical Center.

Stewart said Lessard, who was driving west toward Lewiston, crossed the center line striking and taking the side mirror off an approaching vehicle driven by Hannah Thurston, 24, of Lisbon.

Lessard corrected, Stewart said, but then drifted back across the center line striking an oncoming van driven by Uwaechia and continued on, striking a third oncoming car driven by Jessica Nolan, 33, of Auburn.

Lessard’s 2009 Honda Accord was totaled as was the 2004 Dodge Caravan driven by Uwaechia and owned by Pathways Inc., Stewart said. He estimated damage to Thurston’s 1996 Buick at $200 and damage to Nolan’s Ford at $2,000 in the 6:41 p.m. crash. No charges were filed.
