LEWISTON— The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society was recently presented with a $2,285 donation made possible by the Auburn PETCO’s Annual Tree of Hope Fundraiser.
Tree of Hope is an annual holiday fundraising campaign hosted by PETCO and the PETCO Foundation. Donations collected in local stores directly benefit animal welfare groups in their area.
Greater Androscoggin Humane Society Executive Director Steven Dostie said the donation will directly benefit the thousands of unwanted animals helped at the shelter each year by providing food, shelter, veterinary care and a chance for a new home.
PETCO operates more than 1,000 stores in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Its nonprofit organization, the PETCO Foundation, has raised more than $60 million since its inception in 1999 and more than 85 percent directly supports animal welfare groups.
The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society provides a haven for more than 5,500 sick, homeless and abused animals in the greater Androscoggin area each year.
