LEWISTON — Birdena M. Whittle, 104, a resident of Sabattus Street, Lewiston, died Saturday, at Marshwood Health Care Facility with her son, Leigh, by her side following a long illness.

Born in Lewiston on Aug. 27, 1905, the daughter of Millard and Mary (Leclair) Jones. She was a graduate of Edward Little High School and honorary member of the Robin Dow Senior Citizens.

She enjoyed cards, bingo and traveling to Las Vegas and Foxwoods. Birdena also enjoyed camping for many years at Wells Beach.

Her employ began as a front desk cashier for the original Poland Spring Mansion House for 11 years. At the time of her retirement she was head buyer for B. Peck Department Store where she had been employed 22 years. She and fellow buyer, and good friend, Barbara Smith, enjoyed getting together in later years and reminisce about their buying trips to New York and Boston over the years.

Survivors include two sons, Leigh Whittle of Lewiston and Richard Whittle and wife, Helena, of Auburn; six grandchildren, Douglas Whittle and wife, Debbie, of Auburn and Florida, David Whittle of Georgia, Judy Kiltz and husband Bill, of Connecticut, Gary Whittle and wife, Nancy, of Connecticut, Robert Whittle and wife, Holly, of Connecticut and Donald Whittle and wife, Nancy, of Connecticut; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by her husband, Donald W. Whittle; and their eldest son, Donald L. Whittle.
