TURNER — Families and friends gathered at the Leavitt Area High School Auditorium on June 11 to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduates of SAD 52 Adult Education.

Mike Miclon of the Buckfield Oddfellow Theater was the keynote speaker. He spoke about his “Ten Steps to Success in Life” that include determining a dream, setting goals, finding a mentor, persevering and having patience. He told the audience that he had been a nontraditional learner.

Student speeches were given by Matthew MacVane and Shantinae Jackson who talked about their educational journeys to commencement. Chris Bonnevie, an Adult Education alumni, also spoke and urged the graduates to keep on learning.

The following student and academic awards were presented: Social Studies Award, Jessica Courbron and Alicia Sessions; Sunshine Award, Shantinae Jackson; Endurance Award,  Brandon Pelletier; English Award, Alicia Sessions; and Math Award, Juan Reyes.

The Central Maine Community College Courage to Grow Award was given to Jessica Courbron for dedication and courage to her academic pursuits and the goal of attending college.

Superintendent of Schools Darlene Burdin presented diplomas to the graduates. Members of the 2010 class included Mariah-Sue Barrett, Jordan Bisson, Nicholas Blair, Lauren Corbett, Jessica Courbron, Bradley Dacyczyn, Jessica Fitzpatrick, Brittany Flagg, Edwin Harrington Jr., Shantinae Jackson, Daniel Keisman III, Wendy Lauser, Nicholas Letourneau, Matthew MacVane, Michelle Ouellette, Brandon Pelletier, Juan Reyes, Cody Russell, Alicia Sessions, David Violette and Ethan Weeks.

Musical selections were provided by Jerry Ellis. Following graduation, refreshments were enjoyed in the cafeteria.
