PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The state of Maine is getting ready to announce the names of up to 8 groups that will be able to sell medical marijuana at nonprofit dispensaries in the state.
The Portland Press Herald says the Maine Department of Health and Human Services will announce on Friday which of 17 applicants will be able to charge anywhere from $200 to $400 an ounce for marijuana varieties such as Lemon Diesel or Green Queen.
The dispensaries are being created as part of Maine’s medical marijuana law, which was approved by voters in a referendum last November. The dispensaries are due to begin operation on July 1 next year.
The law calls for eight dispensaries across the state, but it’s possible the state may not issue all eight licenses on Friday.
