LEWISTON — The Maine Crafts Association, a statewide nonprofit organization promoting the work of craft artists, has honored Robyn Holman with an award in appreciation of her scholarly contributions to the field of craft.

Holman is curator for the Atrium Art Gallery at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn campus since 1992. During the association’s annual celebration dinner at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts on Deer Isle, Holman was presented with an award certificate and Maine Crafts Association pin designed by Portland jeweler Chaya Caron.

Holman has been curator of The Inspired Hand, Maine Crafts Association members’ biennial exhibit since it began in 2000 at USM, Lewiston-Auburn. She first became inspired by the craft field working as gallery director and associate director and later executive director of Craftschool, a nonprofit arts center in Lewiston, 1972-1981. Afterward, she became the assistant curator at the Bates College Museum of Art.

Holman’s curating skills and talents have helped launch the careers and highlight the work of Maine’s most distinguished and accomplished craft artists. To learn more about the Maine Crafts Association, go to www.mainecrafts.org.
