AUBURN — Community Little Theatre will hold auditions for “Children of Eden” at 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday, July 18-19, at Great Falls Arts Center.

Jonathan Carr is director with Mitchell Clyde Thomas as musical director and Danielle Sicotte as choreographer.

“Children of Eden” was written by Stephen Schwatz, composer of “Pippin,” “Godspell” and the smash-hit “Wicked.” It has a beautiful score, timeless messages and the opportunity for lots of actors to fill the stage. Even though it’s based on the bible, “Children of Eden” is neither preachy nor heavy-handed.

Because the play calls for a large cast, it offers acting opportunities for men, women and children of all ages, ethnic backgrounds and abilities. They will take audiences through the first nine books of the Old Testament, from the creation of the Earth through the flood and its aftermath. There will be big production numbers with lots of singing, dancing and pageantry, along with storytelling and narration.

Act II begins with a rousing reggae/calypso number celebrating all the generations that have passed from Adam to Noah, where the story picks up with the building of the Ark and the arrival of the animals.

Major male roles include Father, Adam, Noah, Cain, Abel, Japeth, Ham and Shem, and will be vocally demanding. Female roles include Mama Noah, who has a big gospel number that needs to be belted out, Eve, Aphra, Aysha and Yonah. Many other roles make up the chorus.

The play will open Oct. 8 and run for two weekends. Great Falls Arts Center is at 30 Academy St. For more information, call 650-4897, 400-6085 or 783-0958; or visit www.laclt.com.
