AUBURN — Mechanics Savings Bank recently awarded a $1,000 Banking on the Future Scholarship to Edward Little High School graduate Emily R. Dumont. She is the daughter of Rene and Julia Dumont of Auburn.

While at Edward Little High School, Dumont was a member of the National Honor Society, AVEC Math/Science Program, French Club, Early College for ME and the Class of 2010 Executive Board. In 2009, she received the Williams College Book Award and was a Girls State representative. She is also a four-time recipient of the Academic Excellence Award.

Dumont volunteered her time to several community service organizations including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Kick-Off Mentor Program, as well as all National Honor Society outreach initiatives. In addition, she served as a tutor for Somali youth and was an Auburn School Committee Student Representative.

In the fall, Dumont plans to attend Stonehill College in Easton, Mass. to major in secondary education/mathematics.

For more than 20 years, Mechanics Savings Bank has provided scholarships to assist high school graduates with their higher education goals. This year, the scholarship program will award $1,000 to 13 high school graduates at seven area high schools.
