LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center will offer a free workshop for veterans with cancer and their families.

“Veterans Issues and Cancer Survivorship” will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at CMMC, 12 High Street, Conference Room H. Jim Doherty and Dorn W. McMahon will facilitate.

Doherty, retired from military service, has worked with Togus Veterans Affairs for the past seven years. He works closely with all new and returning veterans for VA health care and other VA benefits and services.

McMahon facilitates several support groups for the Dempsey Center focusing on survivorship for men, their spouses and family.

Doherty will discuss support provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs and provide information on Lewiston’s new Veterans’ Center slated to open within the next year. McMahon will speak about the Dempsey Center’s relationship with veterans and services available to support cancer survivors and their families.
