SOUTH PARIS — Larry Billings used his mother’s family farm in Hanover to illustrate farming as a historic lifestyle at the July meeting of the Woodstock Historical Society.
The Roberts Farm, as it was known, had two barns with cows, pigs, sheep, chickens and geese. Work horses helped with haying and other jobs. Corn, peas, potatoes and various vegetables were raised. Behind the farm the family hunted and gathered maple sap.
In addition, Treasurer Paul Billings announced a grant to the society from Wal-Mart as he works at their distribution center.
The meeting was held at Market Square Health Care Center where Mary Billings now resides.
