It was interesting to read the article and view the photos of the Lithuanian Hall in the July 25 Sun Journal. It concerns the Lithuanian community that their building is referred to as the Lithu Hall. Many regard it as offensive.

The Lithu Hall name was coined by Guy Boisse when he purchased the building in 1970. The name was never used by the Lithuanians.

I hope it does not go down in the city’s history as the Lithuanians’ Lithu Hall. As a matter of fact, I read some history about the Lithuanians in Lewiston and it refers to their Lithu Hall.

The Lithuanian Hall was always called the Lithuanian Hall, or St. Bartholomew’s (SBS). The SBS stands for St. Bartholomew’s Society, as noted on the plaque on the building.

I hope this clarifies the name of the Lithuanian Hall.
