Chinese auction

LOCKE MILLS — A Chinese auction to benefit children in need will be held Saturday, Aug. 14, at the American Legion Hall, Gore Road. Doors will open at 10 a.m. and the auction will start at noon.

There will be a quilt raffle, gift certificates, food table, finger rolls, chop suey and sweets.

Membership social

WEST PARIS — The Finnish-American Heritage Society will hold its annual membership summer social from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at the Finnish-American Heritage Center, 8 Maple St. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. The building is air-conditioned and handicapped accessible.

The Sunday open houses will resume Aug. 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. The museum, gift shop and library will all be open and the coffee pot will be on.

Tent to meet

STONEHAM — Members of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, 1861 to 1865, Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19, met July 28 at the Community Room. There were seven members present.

It was reported that there are two applications out for new members. A thank you note was read from Brenda Files for gifts she had received from the Tent. Longtime member Frances Grant received congratulations on a recent birthday.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, Aug. 25, tentatively, at the same location.

Yard sale

NORWAY — Responsible Pet Care and Pawsibilities Thrift Shoppe, 132 Waterford Road, will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28. In the event of rain, the sale will move to the Norway Town Hall.

Table space is available for $10.  There will be antique, vintage and new items, refreshments and baked goods. For more information, call 743-8679.

Open house

OTISFIELD — The Bell Hill Meetinghouse on Bell Hill Road will be open for public inspection from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11.

There will be several open houses during the summer, in partial compliance with the terms of a New Century Community Program grant for historic buildings renovation which the association received in 2008.

The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
