LEWISTON — Claire C. Fortin Mercier, 66, of 30 Central Ave., died Monday, Aug. 9, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center with her family by her side.

She was born in Lewiston, Sept. 5, 1943, a daughter of the late Reginald and Alice (Bisson) Cloutier. She was educated in Lewiston and graduated from St. Dominic High School, Class of 1961. Most will remember Claire as a sales rep for Avon. Claire married Alfred Mercier on May 9, 2008, and they enjoyed every minute together.

She was a very active member of The Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, where she was an altar server with her husband Al. She also was a former board member of The Franco-American Heritage Center. She was a very active mother and enjoyed spending time with both her children. Claire enjoyed going out to eat, especially with the “Lunch Bunch.” She also enjoyed her Maineiacs and being a billet mother.

She leaves her husband, Al of Lewiston; a daughter, Monique Landry and her husband, Kevin, of Lewiston; a son, Joseph Fortin of Hollywood, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Susan King and her husband, Kevin and their two daughters, Kristin and Katherine of Kennebunk; a sister, Jackie Deschene and her husband, Paul, of Lewiston; two brothers, Fern Cloutier and his wife, Lorraine, of Lewiston and Ray Cloutier and his wife, Lorraine, of Old Orchard Beach; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Angelique Fortin; her first husband Paul E. Fortin; a sister, Pauline Keefe; and a brother, Maurice Cloutier.
